Can We Bring Back The Post Counts, Please?

It was suggested in the "post counts" thread that we start a thread just about bringing back the post counts. Here are some of the reasons/suggestions I've seen that I agree with.

1. You can see how long the person has been a TB'r, so that you cut the guy some slack if he/she posts something totally eh, uh... "inexperienced".
2. Personally, I like seeing how much time I waste on this site Then I look at Munji's count and I don't feel so bad

Suggestions:
1. Counts should only be for supporting members.
2. Threads that are designed to just pop up counts should be deleted.
3. Members that only post emoticons should be warned.
4. OR just keep it the way it was, but police it a little stronger.

If you guys agree... Let the mods know by posting here. If you don't agree. Don't post. That way the mods can have an accurate count (no pun intended) of who agrees/or cares enough bring them back.

The join dates are still on display for this reason

This should be the case whether post counts are displayed or not.

A post count is just a click away for anyone who feels they need to see it. That's pretty simple. People who for some unhealthy reason want to "show off" their post counts are being discouraged by the new setup. Some people find this a good thing.

If you guys agree... Let the mods know by posting here. If you don't agree. Don't post. That way the mods can have an accurate count (no pun intended) of who agrees/or cares enough bring them back.

If the count is to be accurate, it should probably include both kinds of votes, no?

maybe the solution is to only allow supporting members to have post counts, and include an option to have the post count shown or not. I don't know if Paul's forum software can do that, I am rather inexperienced at that

1. Some 13 year old that bought a bass a month ago that had nothing better to di that to post 1,000 posts in a month instead of practicing has more experience than a 20 year bass playing veteran with 10 posts?

2. Bookmark Munji's profile and compare it to your profile.

I didn't notice that post counts were gone until I saw thread about it and it hasn't bothered me one bit.

Not for particular reasons, but for a combination of reasons, including, most simply, that I am a "numbers" driven kind of person, and enjoy watching the numbers associated with just about anything.

i voted no because i just don't see a post count as being that important. if anything, my posts are more informative and impartial since they've been removed. kind of a psychological thing, i guess.

and on those occasions when i'd just like to know (for whatever reason), i can easily find out.

Well so far - the "revivalists" are winning 10 to 3 !!

I don't think there is a logical argument for/against it - but I don't see that they do any harm and are a source of fun/"banter" between members - they are part of the fun of the site - no serious purpose - but I can't see any reason not to have them, as most sites do?

If you want postcount to reflect the validity of a poster, then make sure the counter doesn't add up when you post in off topic sections.

many people here all full time musicians, so i'm sure some of them come here to talk to other musicians, but not to talk about music, to kind of get a break from it. that doesn't mean they aren't valid.
