It just seems kind of pointless and redundant to me. In my opinion people who agree should either post that they agree and explain why or refrain from posting since someone has already made the point.
Thoughts?

I propose we replace "+1" with cosign.
That solves it.

If I wanted to have meaningful, intelligent discussion, I wouldn't be on the internet.

However, by simply saying they agree it shows that this idea is supported. +1 is just a holdover of board karma systems for showing your support.
If someone partially agrees or disagrees they usually explain why which still adds to the intelligence of the conversation.
Exactly. It's nothing other than a sign of approval. I'd rather read an idea once and see others agree than see the same idea over and over. +1 is efficient and meaningful.
Good sir, my thoughts on this for you apparently really bothering event, as i might say, is that you are overreacting. Quote plus one unquote is an easy way of giving a virtual agreement without having to go through the trouble of repeating said comment you agree with, thus making it easier for third parties, and of course the first party, to comprehend that you are in agreement with the first party. Therefore I find that you are undermining the entire forum "community" by saying we should make "+1" redundant.
What I'm trying to say to your question is... hmm, how can I put this simply...

"Carrots" is just as useful as +1/-1.
In all seriousness, on another forum I visit they've banned +1's entirely and the level of intelligent responses has gone way up as a result.
Here's how they framed the rule:
Post only in a way that contributes to the discussion at hand. Posting constructive criticism and helpful suggestions is a great way to contribute to our community. Bumping old threads, posting "pluswan", "+1" or one-liners, and arguing aren't and will result in warnings, suspensions, or other actions.
...again, this is just a thought.
Should a +1 emoticon be discussed?
