This reminds me of an moment from my youth:
In the fall of 1978, while a freshman at the Berklee College of Music & living in the dorms on 150 Mass.Ave, I, due to a variety of circumstances that aren't germane to this thread, was accused of violating a dorm rule and was brought up on charges that would have resulted in my expulsion not just from the dorm but from the college.
Unwilling to simply lie down for this kangaroo court, this insipid mockery of justice that the dorm management & college administration hasily flung together, I prepared a "legitimate" defense as one would if brought up on legal charges in an American court of law: I hired council, subpoenaed witnesses, prepared statements, blah blah blah...basically, I showed up to their "hearing" more prepared than any student they had previously charged with a similar violation. It took them aback, I say with some pride.
Two of the witnesses were the two guys who lived in the room next to mine in the dorm. They were brought forward to read a statement they had prepared. The first began to read his statement, which was a very detailed dissertation on precisely what he had witnessed the night of the alleged transgression, complete with times, acute observations about people's apparel & location, tons of details, *plus* an extensive flattering commentary on my character.
His roommate than took the stand and uttered these exact words: "Um... what he said."
