I want like 1500000 different basses and I like the way most of those feel. Others just look insanely awesome and I want them to like.. hang on a wall. But for real, can GAS ever be cured? It's not fair! I'm only 15 and I want like.... 7 more basses.. Oh, and this doesn't even include the duplicates of basses I want in different colors.. I haven't even found the one, or group of basses, that I truly like yet and can get the tone in my head out of..

Stop checking out the classifieds. It helps A LOT.
Also, buy a P bass and throw flats on it and believe it's the be all, end all bass. That's what I did and it has worked well for me

if you are doing what i think you are doing, you are probably getting GAS from shopping online.
i played the basses i was gassing while online shopping and found out that i really didnt want them like i thought.
i waited patiently and found my dream bass, GAS never really goes away but it can be managed.

The thing is.. I want 3 P's. A Sting sig (or something similar, vintage frets, preferably Butterscotch Blonde [like the 51 RI, but I can't find one cheap enough], single coil P, and looks like a Tele), an Oly. White P (black PG), and a natural, fretless (maple neck) P, like Sting's in the Police..
I am. And that does happen to me. I shop online and be like "Oh, that's cool!" and then play it and it's terrible. But I've played and liked the Sting sig. Played and like the Am. Special P and the Am. Std. P and the Warwick $$ Corvette Rockbass which I like as well..
I do.. And he has a bunch of different basses which he takes to lessons each week and such. He also let me play his Sadowsky and it felt soo good.
already quoted, but i don't care. it's the truth. as soon as i stopped reading through the TB "basses for sale" classifieds, i was cured! i was in there pretty much every day, and wanted a stingray, a jack cassidy, a lakland, a kala u-bass, etc...
to be fair, i do have 5 basses. but i had 5 at the time, and still wanted more. i can pretty much nail any niche i can think of with my current gear, and that's enough to fight any GAS that comes up.
Staying out of the classifieds helps, but GAS can attack you from various angles. I was feeling pretty good about deciding on my Geddy Lee about 4 months ago. I had a buddy paint a custom pick guard for me, and I put some Hipshots on the other day. In my head I know it's really all the bass I need.
Then, I read about the Roscoe GTG with Jimmy Haslip. I am a huge fan. Workshop/master class and potential for a private lesson. Hmm, wouldn't a Roscoe Century 6 be a great bass for that. That's all it takes.

Well, you are only 15 and it's all new to you. So just like the rest of us you look at things, and think: Oh man! I'd love to own THAT one and find out what (whatever it is) is all about! And of course, you are broke, and scraping by with your learner bass and just covering the floor with drool.
But that IS what it's all about! It's about learning what each bass can do for you and your music! And by far the best way to learn about a bass is to live with it for a while and by far the best way to do that is to own one for a while.
(Fast forword to the future) And now here you are like many of us here. Older. Decent income. House and car paid for. Money to buy anything that takes your fancy. (and did I mention, house already full of basses) I know it's hard for you to imagine, but I went into GC and I cried because there were no more basses left for me to buy! I look at them and go. "Got that one. Got a better one that that one. Got two of those. And one of those. And tried that kind, but hated them. etc.
And just when you think GAS is cured. What to my wondering eyes should appear but a 7 string bass against the wall at GC! And of course I'm thinking: "I wonder what it is about a 7 string bass?" And (of course) there's only ONE way to learn what it is! NBD!
No, there is no cure for GAS. It's just that the more you learn, the more selective your GAS gets, but it never goes completely away.
Cure GAS? Do what I did: Have a baby. Then, the thought of buying music gear causes a small, terrified feeling to occur somewhere in the vicinity of your wallet.

I play a bass at best buy/ music go round and im all like " that ones nice, that one sucks, that one is amazing. THIS ONE IS EVEN BETTER"

I play a bass at best buy/ music go round and im all like " that ones nice, that one sucks, that one is amazing. THIS ONE IS EVEN BETTER"
I have a Hofner CT 500/1, I love it.. and it's great, but now I need another bass. I'm still in search of that tone in my head. And yes, I have the same thing where it's like "That bass is cool, but the color is terrible. That bass sucks but I love it's color. That one is perfect, but it's 4 grand.."
Dude GAS gets worse with the more instruments you play the worse GAS gets. In addition to bass, I will see a new drum kit, guitar, mandolin, or euk I just am dying to get. I feel your pain. But honestly the best thing to do is get super versatile equipment and tell yourself that you don't need any more equipment. I love my phil jones suitcase and will play it live for everything to save my back. I use a fender Jazz with an s-1 which I love with the right eq, and a sansamp bass driver is a nice addition for a little bit more range and drive.

I've been playing bass of and on for about 25 yrs and recently 2 yrs ago got back on again, And have been suffering from GAS , for the past year or so started out with one bass as a practice to get back into it , working my way up to 6 now, my wife say's "Here we go again, your going thru your little obsession Again!" I say what ever makes you happy, as long as you have the money and work for it.
Funny thing , before getting back into playing bass again, I had GAS but it was Gun Acquisition Syndrome! I was spending all my dough on Gun Collecting , that's expensive Too!

First finish HS, graduate from a good college with something of the than a liberal arts degree, get a good job then shop til ya' drop. An addiction to guitars/basses is only slightly cheaper than an addiction to drugs but it a lot healthier.
There is only one way and that's a cold turkey.
You need to give up music. Burn all your music equipment and cd's, and start doing something with real value for the society.
