Can you go wrong spending $120 on a bass?

I don't think the Foundation has been made this century.
The Fury is like three times the price of SX.
And you're stuck playing a Peavey.

For what it's worth, I've seen older SX sell for over MSRP. Even the necks alone can go over MSRP.

My contention is if an instrument costs less than concert tickets, resale value is a minor concern.

I have had several Foundations and still have a nice one from eBay a couple of years ago (thanks to all the great press they get here on TB). Great bass, but more a J bass with a very thin and small neck. I like it a lot, though. But they're creeping up in price. The Sx P is pretty nice for the money, and I agree the pickups sound pretty good, which is amazing considering the price point.

So, including my son's Rogue 5 string, that's three bargain priced basses in my house, all are good buys and good players in their own way but all are quite different.

Not all of the eras have pencil necks... earlier are a different profile.... earlier were less pencilish

Unlike the SX basses I've owned, I could quick and easy cash out an American Patriot, Fury or Foundation

Really? The ones I've played were mostly the earlier ones, and the necks (as many Peavey necks, except for T-40's/T-20's) were much to skinny for my taste.

They are a great value, but if you are interested in a "Fender-ish" bass, they may not be the best choice. That is one of the appealing parts of the SX line. They are "Fenderish" on a budget. Peavey's, not so Fenderish, but still a great bass on a budget.

If you got $120 for a bass, save more money and get something with quality. Buy used from CL or pawn shop or somewhere. Don't buy something that will be worth nothing next year when you want to upgrade.

I bought mine for $109 plus shipping over two years ago.The only mod I've done is to set it up and take off the crappy strings and replace them with TI flats.

It's been played hard at hundreds of gigs and it's payed for itself many many times.I don't worry about resale value,it's not for sale.

just a little FYI

Sx do make some horrible basses. for example, the traditional series aren't too great. The scorpion is terrible. etc etc

The Vintage series is unbelievable! Yeah they're hit and miss, like every other instrument!

You'll find sx basses that were originally $119 from the likes of rondo SOLD OUT but you'll find some people selling theirs on ebay starting at nearly $300 fully stock and ya know what? They get the money for them because they're worth it. You could take an sx bass and stick on a squier sticker instead and someone who hates SX wouldn't even know! They'd think "this is a great lil bass" and dare i say it, you could even stick a MIM fender sticker on some of them and you'd be able to get away with it too!
