Can You ID These Strings for Me? And Other String Questions

Is anyone able to identify which brand and style of strings are on my bass? As pictured, the top ends have yellow/gold-ish cloth around them. The bottom ends have metallic colored pieces.

Furthermore, do the strings or pickups have more effect on what "sound" I am getting? I love the way this bass sounds. I'm finally starting to get used to the wider neck, so I'd like to start playing it more, especially because it sounds so good. :bassist:

Maybe I will put this style of strings on my jazz bass and see if it changes the overall "sound" or "tone."

Thank you again for being helpful in advance. This is a cool community overall.

Are they rounds or flats? When you say "metallic colored pieces", are you referring to the brass-colored ball ends? Do they have silk at the ball end as well?
Round and the colored ball ends are actually the same metallic color as the tuners, bridge, etc.

I know D'Addario uses different colors for each string, so these are probably not D'Addarios. And D'Addarios don't have cloth on the top as far as I know.

Looking at the pic, the silk looks more "orange" than "yellow" to me. Or, is it just the lighting condition of the photo that's fooling my eyes?

So far, I can't think of roundwound strings with "orange" silk and silver ball ends. If the silk is in fact more "yellow" than how it looks in the pic, they could possibly be MTD Stainless Steel.

In person, it's more like a yellow-gold, or a gold-yellow.

I'm still looking for a positive ID on these strings. I don't think MTD Stainless Steel was correct. Remember the brass fittings on the end of the strings are the same metal color as my tuners and bridge. :help:

I know that really old GHS Boomers - the short scale set - had yellow-gold silks on the tuner end, 'cause I have a set of them on one of my headless Kramer Dukes. However, the ball ends are brass, not "silver"... Sadly, the current long scale Boomers (the hex core sets) have red silks on the tuner end. Does anybody know if DR Sunbeams have yellow silk? I had a set of shorty Sunbeams on one of my basses for a while, and I honestly can't remember if they did or not. Even if they did, they might be like the Boomers, in that different scale strings have different silks...
Other than that? Sorry; far as rounds go, I got nothin'...:rollno:

The only DR strings that have silk are the Legend Flats; all the rest are silkless.

Those must be the DRs that I'm "remembering", then. The shorty Legends are what I replaced the Boomers on my other Kramer Duke with; the Duke that I actually play. I'm very happy with them, too. Aside from being flats (always a good thing, AFAIK), they sound remarkably like the Boomers they replaced - on this Duke, anyway. And, I really liked how the Boomers sounded...

Interestingly enough, both the DR Legends and the short-scale Boomers have gold silk.

EDIT: One clarification... The short-scale Boomers USED TO come with gold silk, but all Boomers come with red silk now.
