View attachment 3712581 So, what's under the pick guard? The remains of some old paint? Bare naked wood? If it were mine, I think I'd strip everything off it, and finish it like this Alembic Epic. A thin, clear sealer on the natural wood, and a coat of car polish. Personally, I'm partial to NuFinish, followed by a coat of Brillianize aircraft window cleaner/polish. Which is what Rickenbacker uses on theirs, to make them so shiny. But, failing that? Go with the Purple Burst...

Lots of top routing for the control cavity, wiring and pickups. It'll need something like the pickguard to cover that up.

I love natural finishes so I would ordinarily say leave it, but that purple burst is sexy as hell.
Green is lovely, too (and I normally don't like green). Looks like any color looks good in a burst finish with dark edges. DO IT.

She got rid of the wood panels on the wall too.
In fact, she did a complete restoration of my den last year (except the floors).
And here I was thinking it was those damn Home & Garden TV show.
New Den, new furniture, new Samsung 55” smart TV, cost me a fortune.

The Refin that a previous owner did is not awful, this just a little sloppy.
Most people would probably leave it alone, which it back to the anal-retentive thing.
So I would need to do a RF on a sandbox bass first to see if I can do a one that I can live with.
Because of the cost, I am really struggling with justifying a professional RF, just because I'm obsessive.

I luv the vintage aura and you lucked out with a better than average grain, the Nat. finish is a bonus IMO.
if a refin is a must I'd bet the Mrs. would be extra agreeable with Peavey's own std. burst. if done well yours could top mine, and I bought this for it's looks

I really like the burst on my T40
Money spent on something you love is never wasted (there may be better ways of spending it, but that’s not for me to say).
I would agree that a refin might be in order. I’m partial to black myself, but both the green and purple bursts look very cool indeed, and the red is no slouch either. Since the grain is nice, you might consider a transparent colour burst à la the purple.

Okay, the "Leave It Alone" crowd wins.
I casually brought it up to the WF,
she said go ahead but sell one of your others to pay for it.
so I said, “Nah, I haven’t bought a bass in awhile and I’m eyeing this one”.
The one I showed her cost twice as much as a refin, I didn’t really want it,
I was just setting the expectation.
I assume those RF’s above will run about $300 or more anyway,
so I’ll take it to my auto body guy and see if he can buff out the runs.
Maybe buying a new PG will make me happy.
Ya'll know I can't keep well enough alone.

Purple would have been killer
You got lucky, yours is a 3 piece body. Peavey used 5 pieces for one of mine,mismatched too 
What the heck is the 2nd from the right bass? Looks like Peavey. Two VFL's? That's cool looking.
It's a 1997 Peavey Axcelerator, slightly modded,
with vintage Peavey knobs and and tort PG.
