I wouldn't say I like rounds "dead" but rather "broken in". I never was a fan of nickels, but find fresh-out-of-the-pack stainless rounds as too bright (I use Roto 66s, by the way). However, once the rotos have been broken-in, they mellow down to a level which I like: not too bright, not too nasal.
