Can you leave your amp on too long?

Tube service life can be extended if the heater voltage is reduced when in standby mode. For instance, a note from the RCA 6146 tube data sheet, also used in the early SVT, recommends that the heater voltage be reduced by 80% when in standby for extended periods of time. This is often done with commercial transmitters.
