Can you recommend me an overdrive?

When you say Overdrive, what type of overdrive sound do you actually want? Lemmyish, warm and furry, grindy mids, huge thundering rumbles, ect.

I really don't think the BassDrive cuts the lows. I thought it did at first and I was bummed, but I messed with it for a bit and now I feel like I actually get a bit of a boost when I engage it.

I searched around a little bit and found a crap ton of threads about overdrive pedals but everyone said it's pretty much your taste. I was wondering if you could recommend me an overdrive pedal for my specific application. I'm not a big pedal guy but I do want another tone to add something to my bass lines. I was thinking about a Tech 21 Bass Driver DI I've heard good things, but I've got an active Corvette Standard that already has a 2-band EQ on it. So maybe I could get away with just a straight up overdrive pedal. Any Suggestions?

As I've mentioned in othere threads, my experiences are mainly with the six-string guitar and trying these things out on bass is a new game to me, so take that for what it's worth......


I've bought a lot of overdrives in the last 20 years, boutique and otherwise including the Diamonds, the Fulltones, the Crowthers, the TS-9s, and a host of others.
...... and the one I always came back to is the Boss Super Overdrive, and so far I've not been able to match the sound at any price.
I know these things are subjective and as another posters said, you'll get a ton of opinions and "+1"s.
For me, it retains the "openness" of my Strats where most other pedals tend to compress it a bit more, even if slightly......now this could be soley a Strat thing...I dunno'

I recently plugged my bass into one of my Boss Super Overdrives running thru' a little Ampeg SS combo and I did like the sound of it very much, although the little amp left a lot to be desired.

I would say at very least, that they are definitely worth giving an honest demo.

I do have to wonder though, if the bass specific Boss overdrives might be a bit better suited for the instrument and I've yet to demo them to find out.

Maybe if the bass OD models don't cut it for you, you should try the standard (for guitar) Super Overdrive, just to see if you like it better....again, just guessing on that one.

I should add that my Boss Super Overdrives have some Keeley-based mods done to them.
I liked them for years in their stock configurations but after modding, they are just that extra 10% better to my ears....and a bit quieter.
