Can you recommend me an overdrive?

Well, even if you want just a simple drive effect you're stepping into a big world now.
Babysteps. ;)

I'd say +1 on the SansAmp Bass Driver. Expensive, but a good place to start.
Plus it will always be a usefull pedal (DI) when you are going to buy other overdrive pedals.

Yes, you heard what I implied. Whatever you buy now, it wont be your last. :)

You're going to try others, alsways searching for the next pedal that will give you just that little bit of more perfect grit.

Good luck with your choice.

I use a Marshall Guvnor for a very slight overdrive sound. I like the pedal because it has more than just a Tone knob, so you can tweak your sound in rather nicely. I use a Fulltone Bassdrive for heavier things, mainly passages that need some balls.

I use a Marshall Guvnor for a light overdrive. I like it because it features more than just a 'Tone' knob, so you can tweak your sound in. For something a bit heavier, I use a Fulldrive Bassdrive.

For mild, organic sounding overdrive, I think the Analog Man modded Turbo Tube Screamer (TS9-DX) is hard to beat. It's a Tube Screamer with 3 added modes. Each adds more bass and subtracts some distortion.

You don't find them around used very often.

I find myself missing mine.

Boss Bass Overdrive ODB-3.
I also have a warwick corvette and the sound is great. I have turned 4 people onto the pedal, they borrowed it then they bought one. It is not a pedal that is flashy looking but you can get great tones from it.

I searched around a little bit and found a crap ton of threads about overdrive pedals but everyone said it's pretty much your taste. I was wondering if you could recommend me an overdrive pedal for my specific application. I'm not a big pedal guy but I do want another tone to add something to my bass lines. I was thinking about a Tech 21 Bass Driver DI I've heard good things, but I've got an active Corvette Standard that already has a 2-band EQ on it. So maybe I could get away with just a straight up overdrive pedal. Any Suggestions?

Equipment is in the sig. Thanks for any help in advance. I wanted to ask the effect gurus!

Hi guy, I suggest you buy two ODs used from the classifieds. Re-list the one you like least, or re-list both and try another couple. I've also seen a couple guys raving about a $30 special on an MXR OD at Guitar Center.

I doesn't actually cut low end. It boosts the mids. As the mids as the most easily perceived, you tend to try and get unity volume by matching the mids volume. If you match the lows, you get a bit of a bump in the midrange which allows you to cut through the mix when you engage the overdrive.

Well, I believe it does really cut a bit the low end IMHO. I prefer to use it with active basses so I can boost a tad the lows when engage the Bass Drive to compensate. Next version should fix it.

There's a mid boost for sure especially with the MOSFET and VINTAGE mode and it does helps cut through.

Wow guys thanks for your input! I'm going to check out that FullTone and VooDoo Labs pedal as well. You guys are awesome!

After Christmas, I'm going to start diving into recording in a small desktop/notebook setting. Can anyone lend me their knowledge maybe thru PM?

First posting here and I'm relatively new to the bass, too (a recovering guitarist). I guess this is kind of a suggestion and an inquiry at the same time. I plugged my bass into the Fulltone OCD to add a bit of grit to what's otherwise a very clean tone. I like the edge it lends and I've found it pretty easy to tweak the amount of boost and distortion. Are ignorant ears letting me settle here, or is this thing actually as good for bass as it was for the six-string?

its one of the most commonly used OD pedals here. Its not the best, by far, but for what you pay its an amazingly great pedal. Extremely transparent and you really do have a huge area to play with in terms of what you can dial in. Oh and its dead quiet :hyper:

TS9 or Bad Monkey are a blast, and not too expensive. The one thing is they suck-a-lot of low end, the TS9 being, to my ears and thru my gear, a little more transparent. Try something like a loop/blend pedal with any guitar oerdrive and you'll be on your way. I walked a very long way to find that a blend/loop is a must have for any real freedom of choice in the OD/Distortion world.

Greetings.
