can you use a combo amp as a speaker cab?

Want to get the wife a Gk backline head. Can I use my
Behringer BX-1800 as a speaker cab? Obviously, I'm talking
running the head directly to the 15" speaker and bypassing
the combo. Would this work ok for practice untill she can get
a good speaker cab?

It would work, but you'd probably have to open the cab, disconect the leads of the speaker, solder them to an input jack, drill a hole for the said input jack and totally ruin the resale value of your combo.

If it doesn't bother you and your handy with electronics, go for it.

Good lord, how much resale value would a behringer BX-1800
combo have anyway? For awhile, I used a Marshall 50w SS
amp as a cab for a VJ head. Wanted to gno if bass was any
different.

You can totally do this. In fact, with a couple combos that I've owned, I ended up running a speaker cable OUT of the amp portion and then hooked up a 1/4" jack to the speaker portion. The nice thing about this setup is that I can use a different speaker with that amp, or do as you are, which is use the speaker in a pinch. As for resale? First off, it IS a Behringer so as you stated (paraphrasing here) "who cares" but seriously, if you do a clean job, it wouldn't hurt the resale at all. In fact, I similarly mod'd my old Ampeg BA-115 and it actually became a selling point.

Killer. Today is our 12th wedding anniversary and I'm getting
her a Backline 600 head. She's going to be so happy.:hyper:
