Can't always PM or subscribe..?

I've had this happen once or twice, but this time around it's very annoying; I'm trying to subscribe to an ad- can't, AND I can't even PM the guy to let him know I'm interested. I also don't want to post publicly and draw attention to an item I'm wanting all to myself. Borderline D-Baggery on my part perhaps- still, there's something awry here.

Your account checks out fine. What error message do you get when you try to PM or subscribe to a thread?
