You sound like a bass player who wants to play some melody occasionally.

I play both. For a long time I was the bassist at church, but I was teaching my girlfriend how to play bass, so I brought her in for a night and i played guitar that night. My role pretty much switched to guitar full time and she took over bass haha. I actually have much more fun on guitar, so I dont mind her playing bass at all
guitar will get you more attention, require more string changes, and is more fun to play alone than bass is.
Bass will get you more gigs, generally cost less, be less upkeep if you just get the usual Fender or workhorse bass, and will encourage you to learn more theory. It will also give you an excuse to have a bigger rig than the guitarists
If you're good at both, you'll have a lot of fun and get a lot more offers to jam. You have to have the motivation to become good though!!!!

I know a lot of guitarist who are awful on bass. They THINK they can play it, they they try and...ewww, sounds awful.
