Are you on a PC? Not sure if it's different on other devices, but on a PC browser, you have your ID and avatar at the upper right of the screen on the banner: click there and then click on the area you would like to edit (personal details, signature, contact details, avatar, etc.). If you just click on your ID itself, or on "your profile page," you get your page without the ability to edit it.
