Carbon Fiber Wrap / Hydro Dip

Almost forgot. Some local guys are making glider wings and fuselages by laying up CF on foam cores, then once everything is cured, they pour gasoline into the part and melt the foam core then flush it out, but they are obsessing over grams so it might be more work than it's worth for an instrument body, but it does beg the question of what a foam core bass body laid up with CF and bagged might weigh versus a layup over a wood core.

I almost bought a cheap little Chinese lap steel at a pawn shop recently just to use for a pattern to carve a foam core and make a laid up CF body for it. Fortunately sanity prevailed and I let it go, for now. :D

Yep, I agree 100%......I think for someone who really does want the CF look though, and has never done it before like myself, its probably a good idea to practice a few times before moving on to your finished product.

These are some really good out of the box ideas guys

I've had plenty of car parts hydro-dipped with carbon fiber. It is the way to go. Just like addind a layer of paint and clear coat, it can be sanded off. There are many different patterns you can do, even some awesome wood grain patterns. Works on pretty much ANY smooth surface!!!

Im kinda weighing towards the dip.....put I want to see the work done up close before I decide

Assuming you just want a black decal and nothing like a metallic head stock decal, just go to the model car section of hobby lobby and get some decal paper, and print your own on an ink jet.
