Eric Cameron said:I guess since none of you are old enough, it's time for the village elder (that's me) to tell you the story of the formation of Talkbass, the troll wars, and how carrots saved us all.
Long ago in the dim ages, about 6 years ago, there was a wise and humble man named Paul. Now Paul looked out at the choas of the internet woods, and he saw that tabcrawler reigned supreme. Now Paul knew of the bass, and understood it's importance. And he saw the other bass players of the world, floundering in the ignorance of places like basstabarchive. And Paul, for he was wise and humble, knew he should do something.
So Paul created a place for bass players to congregate, without the pressures of the stage. A place where they could share knowledge, where they could compare equipment, where they could get advice, and where they could speak ill of guitarists without being overheard.
And all was well with Talkbass, and it flourished. And it drew more and more bass players, some of whom have become quite famous for their exploits and their ability to shoot down idiots. And the boards upon which they discussed became so large, that Paul decided to change them, and make them better.
Thus was the first iterration of Talkbass. And the changes were good, for they allowed bass players to talk more, and to search the forums better. And they changed the color to something other than that of baby puke.
But, like all utopias, it draws the bad along with the good. Evil was upon the wind, and not just in New Jersey.
And here, my young pupils, I must stop for a moment. For it is time for me to go to class and learn things, and I shall be back to finish in about 90 minutes.
Rock on

Now, where was I before school got in the way? Ah yes, the War of the Trolls.
Now, Trolls are vicious, disgusting, immature creatures that feed on the irritation and annoyance of others. Kind of like leeches or civil-suit attourneys. By themselves, they are easy to defeat. But over time, they banded together, forming great armies of 14-year old mayhem. And their leader was a particularly vile beast known as Mr. 2112. Mr. 2112 had grown beyond a simple troll. His hatred for all things shiny and neat knew no bounds. He despised our community, and made war against our chosen leaders.
This war lasted many days, and ranged all over the forum. Our hero was a simple bass player by the name of John Turner. He took the brunt of Mr. 2112's attack. They fought long and hard, and the legend of this great conflict is to dramatic for me to recount here.
Now, Mr. 2112 was not defeated by John Turner. He was defeated by one of his own kind. For there was a young troll named Sheep Man. Now, Sheep Man was not evil at heart. And after visiting our fair community, he fell in love with it. He decided to change his ways, and become a member. His defection was welcomed with open arms, as we all knew he was not evil. But what really made us happy was that he brought a great secret with him. He knew that carrots would bring down the Troll Army!!
For you see, Trolls hate carrots. Not just their taste, but everything about them. Their color, their shape, how they grow in the ground. It reminds them too much of how their mothers used to force them to eat their carrots and their broccoli and their asparagus when they were little. And it angers them so!!
So John Turner went once again into battle with Mr. 2112, this time armed with carrots. And soon John Turner stood victorious upon the field, Mr. 2112's head on one hand, and a carrot in the other!!
It was then that Sheep Man told Paul, who is wise and humble, that if you plant carrots all around Talkbass, then the Trolls will never come back in the numbers that they once were. It was then that carrots became the unofficial symbol for Talkbass, and which is why we plant them in all of our polls. So that we may never have to face the dark and annoying times of the Troll Wars ever again.
Now, is that a satisfactory answer?
