carrying pedals

I have 2 pedals: a catalinbread SFT and a Polytune 2.
I don't use a pedal-board, i just put the pedals in the front pouch of my mono-bag.

Does anyone put their pedals into something to carry them around?

I've been using the box the catalinbread comes in for it because i'm paranoid. (for over 2 years now...ha!)

anyone use anything?

should I just not worry about it?

one last idea...my wife is a photographer and uses these for her cameras and things...it's basically a just a pad with velcro on it: Invalid Link Removed

Before I started using pedal boards (a PT Pro and a PT Nano) I would just keep the pedals in the cardboard boxes they came in. Helps keep them from getting scratched jostling around in a bag or gig bag, bumping each other and cords, power strips, etc. If it works, why worry? Eventually the cardboard boxes do give out, but I found it took years to happen. Then I just duct taped the boxes together to keep them rolling.

But this is an advantage to pedal boards. The nano's bag, in particular, offers nice protective padding. Other advantages: makes setup quicker, as the pedals are wired together and the power is in place, just plug in and go. They also keep the pedals up off of the stage, that crucial 1/2" makes a huge difference when people spill a beer or soda on stage. Well, unless they drop it right *on* your pedals, but then they were going to get nailed anyway.

that's what that link is that I put up.

even that nano seems too big for me.
i am always carrying these around with me (i live in NYC) so weight and size are a huge consideration.
I guess i just worry about the buttons being pushed when in my gigbag, you know?
right now i do use the cardboard boxes! i just seem to be the only person i ever see using them.
i used to have a boss tu-2 and i never worried about it, but the kind of button on the SFT and Polytune just seem like they will wear out or something.

The Pedaltrain boosters might be a good option. They come in a few sizes, the medium one will hold two Boss sized pedals. It's just a bent piece of metal. Then you could stick that in one of the Domke wraps to protect it.

I wouldn't worry about the switches getting worn out. They're meant to be stepped on repeatedly. Even if they do wear out it's an easy and inexpensive fix.

Right idea but I was thinking of something more like this:

These will protect against hard knocks and chips but won't eliminate potential button presses. A small shoulder bag with dividers might work for that but then you're getting into something that rivals the size of a small pedal board.

Also, the price is reasonable - $10-$12. For a couple bucks more, you can get ones with more padding.

When I had 3 pedals I took an old shoe box, I cut out a thick piece of cardboard to fit inside of the shoe box, wrapped everything in duct tape, duct tapped the bottoms of my pedals, duct tapped a plastic cat litter box handle on to it. Plastered the outside with local band stickers and bam! Pedalboard. Worked super well and my knobs no longer got tweaked when I went to gigs. Was way better than my backpack with a rats nest of cords and strings. When I got more pedals I actually spent some $$. Bought a nifty, vintage, briefcase and yeah..no more duct tape.

Velcro, a 2 dollar clipboard, and voila...a pedalboard that fit in my gig bag pocket.

I'm currently using some scrap to make my board. The goal is to make it with custom holes and keep the routing hidden of course, but as I slowly move away from my rack setup I'm planning ahead for moving my tuner to the floor and also a dark glass b7k. I want to build a case around them but I don't want to dedicate the time and materials to building it until I get all of what I want in it, and in the right chain that I want it at. Till then, zip ties and wood will suffice.

That harbor freight case may work for a bit. Going look for one today.

I know you're right. Funny thing is, I don't even care about scratches or anything cosmetic. I'm worried about the pedal breaking or the switch giving out or something. I need to just not worry about it huh?
