carrying pedals

I'm thinking of grabbing a PT nano myself. My pedals consist of a Korg Pitchblack, Boss CS3, MXR BOD and Fairfield Barbershop. I just use the boxes they came in or throw them in a laptop carrying case but if anything ever happened to the Barbershop, I'd cry like a baby...hence my considering a nano. My guitarist uses one for about the same number of pedals and it's padded case seems relatively easy to deal with compared to the powered Gator I was using.

I think you will be okay - you don't have a large board where the combined weight of the pedals can ruin pots and switches when transported and packed incorrectly. The stomp switches see far worse treatment from your foot than transportation. As long as you aren't tightly packing them into a small space, they should be fine for years. Keep the pocket clean and free of dirt is more of a concern.

The Pedaltrain riser that someone mentioned is a good two pedal mounting solution, and the nano leaves room to grow if you need to. The mounting of the pedals will increase the protection factor as well.

The boxes are great too, as long as you don't mind the added packing & setup time of about 30-60 seconds in your case.

for me personally, i don't want to carry anything more than I absolutely have to.
so that rules out any kind of pedal board. - i want whatever I need for a gig to fit into my Mono M80.
and in fact, my stage set up is such that ideally I leave my SFT by the amp and only have a tuner in front of me. I leave the SFT on all the time and have to plug it in since I run it 18v. (so often it's easier off in the back by the amp and close to an outlet.)
For my tuner I always use it with a battery so i don't have to worry about finding a plug.

That's a good point about dirt in the bag.

the other cases i use are an old typewriter case i picked up for $2 @ Goodwill & a Sniper Rifle Gun case for the larger stereo guit board.

someone else mentioned briefcase. there are some really cool "suitcase" boards over at TGP.

I currently use a Sansamp VT Bass, an IdiotBox Blower Box and a Korg Pitchblack tuner, powered by a One Spot-style daisy chain power supply.

Those 3 fit nicely on a Pedaltrain Nano in a soft case.

I currently take a rucksack designed for a laptop to practises & most gigs. The Nano & soft case, power supply, kettle lead, speaker cables, 3 or 4 instrument cables, a strap and a few various tools, earplugs etc all fit no problem in the front section of the bag, and my head (GK MB500) fits perfectly in the laptop section.

With a bass in one hand and a Barefaced Compact cab in the other, and the rucksack on my back, I can load everything in with no exertion, in one trip. It's a godsend, tbh.

I'm aware this went a little off topic, but...

OP, while you may not need a board, it really is nice having all the patch cables & power jacks plugged in and ready to go at a moments notice. You won't really have an issue throwing a couple of pedals into a gig bag pocket, in my experience, something like a PT Nano just keeps it all so tidy & quick to set up.

I found em. They were on sale and I brought in a 20% off coupon. This case is actually pretty damn good. I think I going to replace the hinge with a locking one. My plans are to put a custom wood bottom with routed pockets for wiring and stuff. I'd like to put plugs on the sides so I can plug directly into the case. There may even be room to put a few pedals that are always on in the top part like my compressor. Or even mount a thin high powered Gk amp in the top. I'd like to run my entire sound from pedals and just use a power amp and get rid of my rack. I'm waiting to purchase a b7k to do the final layout, but I'm totally stoked with this case so far.

So I ripped some of the foam out tonight to route cables and crap with this harbor freight case. Also I found the guitar center near me had an MXR phase 90 for sale. Since I barely use my phase 100, I grabbed the 90 to downsize a little with the idea that I'll need the space to add a B7K and MXR carbon copy. I think I can make it all work with some creativity. I put the two pedals I use the most on the bottom (easier access). The tuner (to mute my whole chain) and the MXR di which will probably be replaced by the B7K down the road. The wah is all the way on the floor so I may add a little shim to raise it a bit. Pressing the pedals on the foam doesn't really shove them down too much.

I also bought two cables with 90 ends so I could plug them into the beginning and end of my chain. There's enough room when I shut the top to put both cables in it. My goal is to get rid of my rack and have all of my tone thru a pedal case, where I can plug into my amp for a gig, and di straight out from my case to the FOH.

So far I'm digging this case. Especially for the price. I think it was under $30 with a 20% off coupon.

My pedals velcro onto a piece of scrap wood spray painted black and into either a laptop bag or my cord bag if I use a small board of 2-4 pedals. Been working out well so far. Have not felt the need for a fancy schmancy pedalboard. Not the prettiest pedalboard on here but it works.

Would you happen to have a pic of your nano with these pedals on it? Mine have similar dimensions (really 4 pedals total) and I was thinking of a Nano. It would be cool to get an idea of what I have to work with and what I can add/subtract if I do.

So I finally got my b7k in so I could get to working on making the pedal board for this harbor freight case. This case is awesome. It's wayyyyyy cheaper than the better built flight cases, but it works great. If I find that it's falling apart I'll just buy a nicer case and remake a custom bottom to fit it.

My next goal is to route a DI from the MXR and put a plug on the outside. same for the inputs. That way I can keep all the cables inside it and plug into the case itself from the sides.

did you try putting the pedals on the "lid" part & keeping the foam on the deep side to hold them in place while in transport?

Nah, but I may in the future. I'd have to drop the pedals in the deep section a little to make sure they don't hit. If you look in the first pic you'll see I cut the foam off the lid where the Wah is. The foam helps make sure that the smaller pedals stay put. The Wah itself has extra velcro to make sure it doesn't move.
