Double Bass Cars for bass (DB forum thread)

I've been hauling my acoustic around in my 89 Toyota pickup, but I worry about it being exposed to the elements. Sun, rain, etc. I keep thinking about getting a work van. Anybody have anything to say about the state of current used work vans for lugging basses? Reliability? Portability? Safety?

I remember something about making a foam type thing to keep the bass in place in the pickup, also getting a hard flat top for the back might be a good idea. Im riding ina Subaru Forester S, its funny because my teacher calls it a "bass car". I can fit my DB in there, my B600, and 2 BG's (now that i do classical no more amp or bg) and i could have someone sit in the front seat. It isnt a big car either, so i can bring it down to mid town and be able to weave around traffic just fine.

The seatbelt seems to stay locked.
Anybody ever try this?
It does allow for more floor space.

An upright will fit in the front passenger seat of almost any car. As long as you have room in the back for your amp, etc., you're good to go. Having said that, it's a real pain to load or unload when someone has parked close next to you ... That's why I'm planning on my next car having a good sized hatchback.
(Oh, and: '93 Ford Escort and '04 Honda Civic.)

I normally use my 96 Geo Tracker if I'm within towing distance of my house. it works great with a couple cushions under it and the back seat down but I'm off to jazz camp so I'm using the Honda Odyssey.
In the pic I have it on it's side held by the rear seat belt and the seat removed.
It allows for more room but I may just play it safe and lay it flat with the sleeping bag under the neck.

Hey everyone, I was simply curious on what kind of car everyone drives to transport their double basses.

I recenltly bought a PT Cruiser which suprisingly works perfectly for a String bass, I can even fit two other people in the car and none of my views are absrtructed. Any other PT Cruiser bassists out there??

I'm going to be getting my first car soon and I don't really know anything about cars xD Haha. I was just wondering how you fit a bass in a PTC? Do you have to take the seats out or fold them down or what? Because that's the car I'm looking at and need something to transport my bass to practices and whatnot.
