Carvin bass, tung oil or poly?

I think I may have already answered my own question but I was looking through the bass builder on Carvin's website and the standard option is tung oil, but I had some concerns about using it vs Poly.

1. Do I need re-apply it after a while?
2. Do I need to be concerned at all about how well it'll protect the neck with wide humidity swings?
3. Will it get gummy or otherwise unpleasant feeling if the humidity changes a lot?

I have a 2009 Carvin LB70 with tung oil finish over the entire bass. I live in upstate NY where we have wide swings in temp and humidity and have never had a problem with the neck. Carvin recommends you apply lemon oil every 6 months; I have done that but not as frequently as they recommend. No problems.

I'm a fan of a good oil finish. Reminds you that your instrument is really made of wood when you can feel it properly.

My SB-4000 has the tung oiled neck, and so does another of my basses. For me, it's a bit too slick. I like some traction under my thumb, so between my uber-dry skin and the slick tung oil finish, the tung finished neck requires more effort for me to play. But that's just me, for others it's a boon. It's an ergonomic issue, maybe try to play a tung oiled neck before placing an order?

Also keep in mind that (oddly) Carvin does not offer gloss finish on maple fretboards. I was just talking to a guy who wanted gloss finish on both sides of the neck, but had to settle for gloss on the back only.

I have a couple of Carvins as well as a few homemade instruments with tung-oil or tru oil on the neck. They are all quite stable and I love the feel. I'm sure the satin poly is just as nice. I just don't like a glossy finish on a neck.

I got the satin poly finish neck on mine. It feels smooth and woody, almost like its unfinished, in a good way. I knew I wasn't going to remember to oil it at the proper intervals, and I wanted some extra protection on the neck.
