Carvin - BRX 10.4

My limited understanding of these things is that by it's very nature, a 410 configuration isn't all that good. Which is why I went with 2 BRX 10.2's stacked vertically.

when stacked horizontally, it's pretty much a mishmash of sound with really bad dispersion.

Stacked vertically, the cabs are clear with great sound off-axis. Totally different beast...

I can understand liking the Uber better but not the BRX’s “muddy sound” or “upper mid-range honk” at all.
Not my experience. I was able to get very usable tones easily with the B2000, everything from Motown thump to Chris Squire. The sound was natural and uncolored, yet very responsive to EQ changes.
If the Uber sounds anything like an Ampeg HLF, then I can understand how the BRX would sound “middy” but I like the BRX better than the HLF, which IMO easily gets lost in a loud mix weighs a ton.
Keep twsting those knobs Neil. Don’t let your eyes fool you or let the setting for the Uber dictate the settings for the BRX.
How about a picture of the BRX next to the Uber?

Jeff I haven't thrown in the towel just yet. And you are correct, I initially was using the same B2000 settings for the BRX as I had found for the UBER and that didn't work at all. After tinkering with it a bit and removing some of the mids from the B2000 (it may have been the low mids but I'm not sure) it started to sound better...however it still wasn't really doing it for me. I'm going to try it with a few other basses and see how it sounds. I'll keep you posted.

I have to admit I like low/mid mids in my tone, which is aggressive and a bit overdriven. I cranked it up to 7 in San Diego (just to push it) and found I had to remove some frequencies to find the sweet spot as compared to when I had the volume at gig settings, which is around 4 IMO. It’s typical of Carvins amps/cabs, which sound really flat with everything set flat.
With volume at four I liked DRIVE and SUB BASS at 6, bass at 7, low mid at 6, mid at 5, high mid at 4, high at 3.
With the volume at seven I liked DRIVE and SUB BASS at 5, bass at 6, low mid at 6, mid at 5, high mid between 3-4, and high at 3.
Keep in mind that the settings at FOUR are what I consider normal gig settings at in my experience, plenty loud before sound guys start complaining.
The settings at SEVEN were just me pushing the thing. By the way, I also added the BRX10.2 for a full 6x10 stack and the whole thing really came to life (2000w @ 2 ohms).
You should try the Carvin and the Uber together!!

he does'nt have time to break it in,10 day trial period. If you are that unhappy with it you should return it. I have been running mine for a year and a half heavily,it is well broken in but don't know that it sounds that much different than when it was new.I liked mine out of the box though. Good luck neil.
