Carvin SB5000 / SB4000 Roll Call...Part 7!

They will make me a bass with no routs or electronics for an upcharge. The simplest thing to do for the sound I'd want is to just replace the pickups and make it passive, but I just like that real clean look and it may be worth it for me to pay the extra upcharge and custom work. Still thinking about it.

Again, I like the clean, simple look, along with no knobs. Plus I could position the pickup a little farther from the bridge and not be stuck to a 70s position.

So what's the deal with Carvin. On their forum they have a FAQ that says something to the effect "THERE ARE NO SECRET OPTIONS. ITS ALL ON THE TABLE. CALL US. ETC ETC"

and you are saying that you can order an SB bass all built, except no pickups or knobs.

The other day I asked if they could make me a neck with an unfinished/unshaped paddle headstock, but was drilled for inline tuners and they said "NO".

*there are also posts in their forum from last year, of people providing neck measurements and getting custom neck profiles on their carvin guitars. Going so far as being offered the option to mail a guitar/neck to Carvin to be scanned into a computer and essentially replicated onto a Carvin guitar.

Just making sure... are you talking B50 or SB? My understanding was options like that are only for the B50, not the SB.

Edit: Just looked a little closer and saw the gold hardware. Almost!

If it was a 5'er and didn't have the stainless fret I might be down.... Keep wanting to check out a SB5000 but it's going to have to be an impulse thing, I just can't get myself to order one. I think I'm overwhelmed by the options and the wait.

I was ready to purchase a 2012 Mia fender deluxe v , but the SB kept saying "just give me a chance" so I ordered and have 4 more weeks to wait. I'm gonna play the hell out it for a week and see how she does. If it ain't the bomb, then I'm taking advantage of their 10 day trial/return policy and getting the deluxe. But I know if I didn't order one I would always be wondering about the SB. Just want to know that I've tried my options before settling .

I agree. I've saved enough money, now I'm kind of in the waiting game stage where I check the TB classifieds 3-4x a day because these things get snapped up quick when they go on sale. My perfect SB5000 is spalted maple with ebony fretboard and no inlays. I like maple boards too. In fact, if that Icon that Jarrett posted right up there ^^ were an SB5000 or SB5001, I'd be on the phone with Carvin right now!

But I'd settle for something a lot less unique at this point. As long as it doesn't have a rosewood fretboard or gold hardware, I'm interested!

The specs are 1 piece ash body , maple neck , tortious pick guard , cream colored pickups, nickel frets , stainless steel hardware, stock pre VVTtb Nothing fancy , I basically modeled it after the jazz I had my eye on.

Well...(Saying this politely) I believe that is the whole reason of the 'signature' model. Sekou is a big 70's guy and that was a key element for him in this bass.

Changing something that fundamental, they couldn't really call it a signature model anymore, because Sekou don't play dat! :)
