Sorry guys, wasn't trying to start a **** storm but not going to lie that about being frustrated with what are mostly set up/assembly issues.
I don't think the bass is a lemon and honestly with the exception of the preamp (which had to be a fluke for that to happen) most people wouldn't notice the issues.
Pretty sure the thing with the truss rod with the rod had to do with some clear coat getting down the truss rod channel. Had someone actually adjusted the neck at the factory my frustration would have been averted but it doesn't make it a bad neck. The rest of the issues could be easily resolved but I've lost the enthusiasm to deal with it and partially because the bass isn't what I expected.
My expectations of this bass was a 5 string version of my old 70's Jazz and it isn't. It's a really nice J bass but for me it's not a 70's J, too dark and open and not bright, tight and zingy.
The quality of the materials of the bass are excellent. Wood work, paint, frets, hardware; all excellent. Keep in mind that I probably could have gotten all the issues dealt with it's just that I'm choosing not to. Ever try to get Fender to take care of a warranty issue? I did once and it was like pulling teeth.
For right now I'm going to use my resources to complete a custom 60's J build but maybe next year I'll order another SB and correct some of my spec' choices.
I'm gonna bow out of this thread for now but hope you guys continue to enjoy your basses.
