Carvin SB5000 value?

I have a family member in dire straights (not Dire Straits) who needs some money. To help them out I am very likely buying their Carvin SB5000 bass.

White / tort / rosewood, 10.5 lbs. Near mint condition with the white faded to a nice off-white. With HSC. Has been played but not a lot.

I want to pay them fair market value but I've lost track of what that is. Reverb and TB history are little help.

I sold one a number of years ago for around $800. Does that sound about right or have values moved?

Completed sales on Reverb show a range from $800-1500. Only one has a case and it's in the middle of the range.

I’d give them $1K and not feel like I cheated them and maybe gave a little extra to help out. They aren’t paying shipping or fees or hidden cost so a straight $1K seems more than fair.

If they have to ship it to you , I’d give them actual shipping cost.

At that weight, offer $800. I'm sure it's a great bass but at 10.5lbs.........whew!

Give 'em the $800 only because they're family and you're acting as a "Cash Converters". I'm of the assumption you don't want it or have any need. You're also saddled with the task of selling the thing.

Often times people forget the website, possibly Paypal, and shipping charges all eat into the net revenue from a listing. I'd start at $1k and then see how generous you are feeling.

If your family members are "in dire straits" and "need the money", that usually places them in a "I need this sold now" situation.
And normally, when its a sale to strangers, this is when somebody gets a "good deal" on something. The more dire the situation, the better the deal for a buyer.
So if your willing to give them full market value, your a good guy, doing a good thing for a family member. Not to mention saving them the headache of listing, shipping, etc.
As long as you can afford it.....good on you!

I was going to say the same. I thought those basses were lighter.
