Carving a set neck singlecut

Hello, I'm building a set neck singlecut that extends to approx the 12th fret. What is the best way to carve the neck after it meets the body?

It seems like it will be pretty difficult to achieve a taper on the thickness of the back of the neck and leave enough to glue to the upper hump. Should I leave the sides of the neck square, route the pocket and then take the neck out and taper thickness/carve it leaving a bit of flat edge to glue to on the bass side? There will be a heel just like a normal set neck but it just doesn't make sense to me when I think about how to carve between the 12th fret and end of the neck.

Any advice?

I typically leave the neck uncarved on the bass side so the hump is gluing against the full thickness of the neck. I'm not sure I'm answering your question though. I haven't actually done a set neck, but I would do as much carving as you can before gluing it in.

Yes, that is a concern of mine. I think maybe I'm just over thinking it and maybe it won't be such a nightmare.

Not a set neck but maybe will help you decide what to do.

If you did what @Slidlow did above, leave a section of the bass string side the same thickness as the body, you could carve first, then glue it in. If you leave that side of the neck a bit taller than the body it should be pretty easy to blend it in after glue up. You'd just have to be clever with your clamping as you be glueing a few surfaces at once.

A 7s? My recent experience with a 6s and a single truss rod suggests to me that you might have an issue down the track. At the very least you might want to consider carbon rods to supplement the rod. Then, maybe you've done this before and it was my crappy wood choice? Good luck! It looks sweet :-)

I have CF rods, they're just not routed yet. :bassist::bassist:

What's your plan for a tenon? The ones I'm familiar with but up flat against the body like these

It looks like you'll have a sweeping curve there where neck & body meet
