Just for fun. I have a separate thread on non cash tipping. Just getting a pulse of cash vs cashless folks here. Click the one that best represents you.

FYI - I’m old enough to know when cash was king and never used a CC.

I generally use a card, but do like to use cash for small transactions (fast food burger, etc.). One thing that I do that most of you don't is that in a restaurant, I prefer to pay in cash if possible. I don't like the idea of a waiter/waitress walking off out of sight with my card.

Yes, I'm an old dinosaur. But I'm also retired law enforcement and somewhat skeptical of the intentions of strangers. :cautious:;)

I'm 50 years old.

I currently have $313.00 in cash in my wallet (just counted). But I rarely use it. I would say I use a card more than 90% of the time. I use cash at the farmers' market, and for very small purchases. I also usually tip in cash. But (probably age related) I still feel more comfortable having some cash on hand just in case.

None of that was an option in your poll. So, please add "Rarely use it but still want some on me."

Emergency cash only. Especially these days--the pandemic has forced me to think more frequently about how gross cash is. Sure, handing your credit card to someone isn't really any better, but most of the time you can pay now without the cashier touching your card. Eating at a sit-down restaurant you still typically have to hand the card over, but at least that's not till you're done eating.

I'm still a bit behind the times, though, I haven't used a cash app yet. I'm sure I'll break down and get one at some point.

i voted "pay cash/25% of the time" and that's a guess...sometimes a little less, sometimes a lot more.

typically:
when i'm in town = $0 - $100+ in my wallet.
out of town = $100+ in my wallet.

i have no problem/issues using a card (most of my purchases). i'm not hip enough (or experienced enough) to use a device to make a purchase. i tend to use cash when tipping is involved, or: card for the purchase, cash for the tip(s).

There’s a certain agricultural commodity that’s not currently available for retail sales in my state and it’s the only thing I ever pay for with cash.
i thought NY just made some changes in that regard (?) FWIW: michigan must have a "cash only" policy (?) for out-of-state folks. so says a friend.

I voted Cashless all the time. I joke that 'er indoors can smell cash on me (she is the family chancellor of the exchequer, and gets notifications when cash is drawn). She'll ask me, "Do you have any cash?" and my answer will invariably be "not anymore" as I hand it over.
It's not as one sided as it sounds. We've been doing it this way for close to 25 years. I'm the main earner, but she's dynamite at paying bills, balancing the books, and upping my credit score!
I'll carry cash when I'm travelling for tips, and for places where cards aren't accepted (they exist), or machines are broken.

The pandemic changed everything for me.

I used to always pay for in-store purchases $100 or under with cash. Now all my in-store purchases are with CC. I still use cash to pay for gas, though. Gas for the car, that is...not GAS.;):D
