Funny thing around here (Canada)…..the penny was phased out a few years ago. Cash sales are rounded to the closest nickel since tills don’t have pennies anymore. Pay with debit, you pay to the penny. Same with credit.
I’ve never used my phone to pay for anything in a bricks and mortar retail setting. And likely won’t ever until plastic cards are phased out.
If you’re scared of the government tracking what you spend, you better go ahead and get rid of all your electronic banking, debit cards and credit cards. Actually, ditch your bank accounts altogether.
Much like other modern technologies, we can’t go back in time.
which is why we need cash, less likely to know where you're spending vs cards and phones

Dear Government,
I regularly spend plastic and electronic money at Starbucks, Whole Foods, Market of Choice, Fred Meyer, Jackalope Lounge, and Amazon. I have subscriptions to Netflix, Paramount+, Apple TV+, and the Eugene Register-Guard.
I think that pretty much covers the bulk of it. Let me know if you need additional details. Or just follow my phone movement.
Sincerely,
viribus
I ordered a spatula off Amazon today. I'm probably on a Gubmint watchlist now.
Hey all. This is a simple survey to get a pulse on how we make payments today in 2021. Not sure why this is going sideways...
