Catalinbread Antichthon

Maybe I don't have enough experience with guitar pedals but that is an innovative pedal. 100's of fuzz, tremelo, octave, overdrive, filter etc. pedals out there. Never seen anything like that. I wonder about how she does with the low end... drool
And a kickass promotional video.

Cool! I hadn't heard about the concept before. Will have to check out VFE as well.

I'm not sure this will be kind to bass frequencies (only speculations though, I have no idea), but it will be interested to try for solo stuff or when playing around with looping and layering. I don't know when it arrives at stores, but I will try it as soon as possible.

Hey, guys.

I got one of these last week and it's very bass friendly. No issues with chopping off the low end.
Sounds great, is very inspiring and unlike any pedal I've had before.
The textures, tones and alien soundscapes are really awesome and very tweakable (as stated) via the volume knob.
If you have two pickups and two volume knobs on your bass you can get even MORE odd tones and sounds happening within one pedal knob setting.
It's a brilliant pedal.

Highly recommended.

I tried one back when writing the OP but couldn't get it to play very well with my active bass, so I didn't buy it then. However, I couldn't let the thought of it go either so I got one recently (and also got a buffer buster looper because of it). Very cool pedal, but I think it would work better with a passive bass for sure. Come to think of it, I should try it with my Stratocaster :-)

But the Antichthon is a source of inspiration for sure!

This thread had me take off my Antichthon (and buffer buster type looper) from my board, connect my bass directly and playing only through it today.

One thing I realized was that even more effective than changing volume on my bass was playing very close to the bridge. That and adjusting my playing dynamics really made the pedal's tremolo and tone-generating effects respond well.

I've got a few Catalinbread pedals, and I have to hand it to them, everything they make is just a little bit different than what most other companies are doing. Each seems to have one or two little design twists that let you do some really interesting stuff once you get the controls sorted out. Decidedly subtle but surprising devices IMO - to say nothing of being occasionally weird - but always in a good way. Any company that would be so insane as to clone the sound and behavior of a Binson Echorec is ok in my book. Cool tools!

(If I come across as a fanboy that's only because I am. :laugh: )

tgd? The Great Divide? It is very thick, very synthy, very versatile, could create huge, loud sound! And very pricy as well... I haven't had it for long, but it has fulfilled my expectations so far.

The Antichthon on the other hand is a dynamic fuzz tremolo, and a dynamic tone generator/noise maker. I think they are very different animals. Difficult to advice. I like 'em both!

Probably The Great Destroyer. I lurv my TGD but didn't give the Antichthon a fair shake, so... no opinion. I think the TGD probably has a bit more of not super oscillo sounds, but that's just a guess at this point.
