Caught Between Basses

Hi Everyone,
I am currently interested in buying a 5 string acoustic-electric fretless bass. It would allow me to explore a style of bass I haven't really experienced to the fullest yet, I just love the deep acoustic fretless sound. Two different basses have caught my eye; the Epiphone El Capitan and the Michael Kelly Club Custom 5. I was impressed by the El Capitan when I tried it, but I have heard much about the reputation of Michael Kelly Basses. I'm stuck on what to choose, both are offered at killer prices below $400. Can anyone offer me any advice concerning my choice? Any comment would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Eja Pro

I've played the El Capitan unplugged (the electronics were screwy) and I enjoyed it fairly well. I haven't found a store holding the Club Custom 5, but I guess I'll have to keep looking for one to play in person. The thing is, I can buy the El Capitan from someone nearby, but the Club Custom would be shipped through ebay. Would the shipping affect the quality much?
