I am somewhat reluctantly putting this incredible instrument up for sale. $2400 Shipped. For Sale only. I received this bass from Cliff in April 2009. Specs Spanish Cedar Body Figured Purpleheart and Ebony top. Purpleheart back. Modern Neck (Flame Maple/Wenge/Flame Maple) Fretless Ebony fingerboard. Purpleheart side stripes (binding) and lines. Purpleheart and Ebony front headstock cap. Purpleheart rear headstock cap. "A" shape headstock Purpleheart and Ebony playing ramp (Flat, height set screw adjustable) Black Hipshot A bridge (19mm), Ultralite tuners, Dunlop Dual Design straplocks Audere 3 band Z mode preamp. 3 way mid freq. selection switch. Z mode switch. Active/Passive switch. 18 volts Nordstrand Dual Coil Pickups. Series/Single Coil/Parallel switching. Purpleheart and Ebony control cavity cover and battery cavity cover. Threaded inserts. Weighs right around 10 lbs. This bass is in excellent condition with the exception of a few minor cosmetic issues and buckle rash (see pics). This bass has been gigged/toured with so it is not flawless. With that being said, this is the best fretless bass I have ever played. The neck is extremely stable! I have had to adjust the truss rod maybe 5 times since I got it (and that's living in Chicago). The fingerboard is in great shape and I have always had this strung with nickel rounds. The ebony top near the truss rod access had cracked recently so I flooded it with CA and sanded it down. Put a couple coats of oil on it to match the finish. I also went over the fingerboard with some superfine sand paper and put a coat of oil over it. The whole instrument has been hand buffed with wax and strung with a new set of DAddario EXL nickels and setup with nice low action. Will ship in the Protec gig bag I got with it. I will pay extra to have this securely packaged at a UPS location. I paid around $4000 for this new... tons of upgrades on this bass! Sorry no trades. PICS! Crack Fixed Ding on lower horn. Probably from my gig bag zipper Buckle Rash
Wow, what a beaut! Pure class. I briefly played a Bordwell fretted five-string a few years ago at a TalkBass get-together, and was completely knocked out by its incredible clarity and sustain. Not a dead spot or hot spot anywhere on the entire fretboard. What an instrument! MM
Here is a video of the bass in action. Here is a track I played it on with Will Kennedy and Bob Mintzer of The Yellowjackets I also played it on this whole album entitled "Green Ruins" http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/lukemalewicz
Love that singlecut shape! So well done! Then again CB is a preeminent builder, I wouldn't expect anything less.
The fingerboard should have the same radius that it did when I bought it. I pretty much just used a foam sanding sponge with 400-2000 paper to smooth out some of the string wear. It came to me with a 16" radius on it
I have a Cliff Bordwell unlined fretless that will have to be pried from my cold, dead fingers!!! Awesome basses!! GLWTS!
