CD printing/packaging

Hey guys,

Anyone had a great experience getting their cd's printed and duplicated?

My band is gearing up to record a full length and I'm looking at printing. We are looking for full color on both the disk and package. I'm really liking the 6 panel "tri-fold" type with the plastic dick tray in the middle and two fold out panels on either side. Of course, we want a pro look and cheaper is always better but we are ready to take the cost as necessary.

Any suggestions? Nightmare? Love stories?

Haha you said "dick tray". You must be really interested in pleasing your male fans. Just kidding around.

I'm in the same boat. My band is just finishing up an ep/demo and we are going be looking for a good budget friendly option.

lol I saw that too... :)

I used a company in 2005 that has pro-looking stuff (can't tell it's a cd-rom, looks like a pressed disc) and it was really user friendly. The nice thing was, you could order quantites from 1 disc ($12) to 10,000 and the price went down as you ordered more. The colors were great, everything looked totally pro even though we were only ordering 100 at a time.

You can get instant quotes using their calculator... you enter all the info about your product and it gives you an quote right there, even telling you the price per disc and shipping. For instance, full color disc, full color cardboard sleeve, shrinkwrapped, qty 100 is $233, or $2.33/disc. Shipping $30.

You even encode and upload your music to their site with a program you download from them, or you can mail them your cd and they do it for you. You also upload your full-res artwork. I heard and saw absolutely no loss of quality with audio or artwork from them. All our fans really liked them and thought they looked and sounded great, no one knew they were short run discs.

The really nice thing is you can order a single disc as a sort of test-pressing to make sure everything is right before you press the quantity you need.

The website is Link Removed. You select your disc options online and it shows you all the art and everything along the way. Really nice way to make cds.

Even if you just invest a little time uploading the music and art, buy just one cd to check it out. You'll be impressed.

The guys in my current band have used these guys in the past, and we plan to use them again for our upcoming ep.

Prices seem about on par - some things higher, some lower, than the link above.

Yep as above, no doubt.

To be honest save your money on your first disks booklets, you could always include more panels later when you sell through your first 1000. You will pay dearly for a 6 panel full color. Music sells CD's, the rest is just fluff, IMHO of course. Marketers market themselves, and their self importance very well. ;)

Good luck,
Dirk
