CD's done!!!! Now what?!?!

We finished our CD. It's available digitally on all of the usual sites. We have physical CD's for our gigs. Our website is up and running at hoyny.net.

What are the next steps?

I'm going to submit our CD for review for a couple of local weekly publications and newspapers. I am submitting the CD to local radio stations for radio play during their local shows.

What else should I be doing? Are there online radio stations or podcasts I should submit to (Pandora, ect...)? What else can I do to get it out there?

Another idea I just had, see if there are any local record shops that keep local bands CD's on hand. I know there is one here in my town that does. Might sell a few that way.

While this is cool and we do it dont expect to move many. You will give away more than you will sell in the end. Its really about getting the music out there someway. We sell a few at every show and it helps recover costs to make them.

There's lots of podcasts. Also, you can try to sell the music via istock.com or rumblefish.com, although they usually like instrumental music.

Otherwise, treat it as an expensive business card. It sucks, but CDs are dying and will probably become totally irrelevant soon enough. The only real way to make any money on them is selling them at shows. To do that, you need a decent looking display, not just a few of 'em spread out on a table with a tablecloth. A nifty looking T-shirt will spread your band's name more then a CD will these days...
