Update: Big price drop. I need to move some gear to help pay for my daughters wedding. Price includes shipping. I make regular trips into SF Bay Area, so I can discount a bit for anyone who wants to take delivery in person.

-------------------------------------------------------

I bought this here on Talkbass about 18 months ago, and it was my #1 goto for much of that time. After many years of playing 5 and 6 string basses, I’ve moved back to playing 4 strings pretty much exclusively.

Alder body, maple neck, Brazilian rosewood board with blocks and binding. Celinder PJ pickups and Greengrove 2-band preamp with internal dip switches to control Q and treble/bass frequencies. This bass sounds amazing, with a killer B-string and a huge tonal range that allows you to dial in anything from old school P bass to aggressive, modern Marcus Miller J bass sparkle.

35” scale; weight is 10 lbs even. Includes Mono gig bag and additional white pick guard. It has a few dings, (documented in the photos), but nothing serious.

Some history: I first played this bass at a GTG about 10 years ago. Loved it then, but it was not for sale. Over the years, it has been owned by several people before making its way into my hands. During that time, the truss rod had become unseated. I had luthier Keith Holland reseat the truss rod, plane the neck, and replace the frets. The action, feel, and playability of this bass are wonderful. I’ve had it set up with a medium / low action to accommodate both finger style and slap. Currently strung with DR SunBeams.

If you’re looking for a Celinder, then you know how hard these are to come by; a PJ-5 even more so.

Asking $2650 shipped in the CONUS. Cheque or money order (preferred). No PayPal. Not interested in trades.

Thanks for looking.

-Alan

Sure. I've attached a pic of the dip switches for reference, and found a description from a another TB thread describing their function. (I believe this is a previous owner of the bass. It's what I referenced when trying to determine my own settings.)

After reading this thread, I decided to mess around with my settings.. My Vintage 5 and the PJ-5 both have the CP-3A preamp.. 1 is for a rechargable battery, 2 for Bass Wide/Narrow Contour, 3 for "LO" treble boost at 4.0 kHz and 4 is "Hi" treble boost at 7.5 kHz..
I have both set for the Narrow bass which helps the B string shine alittle more and the "Lo" treble contour on, which adds a nice mid punch for both basses.. I have the "Hi" treble on for the Vintage 5, only because the strings are alittle dead and I'm sure once I change them, this will be turned off...
I checked these out using the amp in my music room, which is a Crate B160XL with a 15" EV speaker... It actually sounds good and I have to try it out on a small gig sometime..
The settings may change once I try the basses on my live rig, which is a Presonus Blue Tube DI for a preamp into my Berg IP-153..

One thing he doesn't mention is the preamp output level control that you can see in the picture.

From the front, controls are stacked vol/vol, bass cut/boost, and treble (boost only). This bass is capable of putting out a massive amount of low end, and enough high end to slice thru any live mix.

This used to be mine! I decided I couldn't do 35" scale or weight over 9lbs and I'm still here trying to figure out how I could buy it back! Incredible sounding bass.

Celinders are fantastic basses, probably the best I've ever owned.. I think I was the original owner on this one and sold it to Jim C...
You are absolutely correct on both counts: you are the original owner, and this is indeed a fantastic bass. This one supplanted both a Roscoe SKB-3005 and an MTD 635-24 from my stable; both of which were incredible basses, but neither of which could match the versatility of the Celinder.

I would be happy to reunite either you (or Jim) with this lovely bass. :)

these are so unique, rare and abide by such high standards. my experience with the active ones is they sound more modern (in a good way) than they look.

I would very much like to possess this and see what it is all about but the house is a little crowded at the moment with the other 14...

I truly dig PJ. Must sound awesome.
