Cello strings on ABG

Has anyone here ever used cello strings on a acoustic bass guitar? I’ve seen a couple of videos of using cello strings on electric bass, but not ABG. They didn’t provide any details about scale length differences, tension. I’m curious to try, but would like to hear from anyone who has tried it.

I use them on my 15-frets five-string Arpeggione to very good effect ( it sounds a lot like a double bass). Scale length is about 29 inches...

Is that a viol de gamba with tied frets behind it?

I did not build it, 'tis a custom order from the SONG factory in China (arrived to me packed in a nearly-fridge-sized carton). I got it about six years ago... They have started making the same one as a standard model: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

That is an old German six-string bass gamba with tied frets behind it. (it's dated from the 1950s and has a very non-traditional 'flying-buttresses' bracing system). The third instrument there is a 1951 Kay plywood cello...

I did cello tuning on a 25" ABG with flatwound bass D and G strings, and the D and G strings from a flatwound guitar set. Sounded great, good tension.

that’s awesome, but certainly not the same as a acoustic bass guitar.
