certain kind of video

Now, a lot of videos do something I cant stand, at least in my years of guitar playing. They will teach you something, and then in the next step, it seems they left something major out and you cant figure out how to catch up or what you missed, usually nothing, the vid just sucked lol.

Well Im fine with that now because Im a good guitarist. I can fake bass pretty good but want a vid that starts from the beginning. Im not above starting fresh even though I can already play pretty good. However I want to go fresh on scales and such, I have a 5 string.

If you know what Im talking about as far as the crappy vids, and can help recommend one, go for it, if not, thanks for wishing you could help lol.

Ah just thought their might be a good first training vid that might be well known trusted amongst all the bass guys that they recommend first. One done in good order. As far as fresh, well, one that shows you the scale in a key, then variations, then maybe some added random finger exercises. I guess I dont need it if I can just get a book, its a lot easier to kick back in your chair and watch a vid though.

What I want, hard to say, I can already play but I play so good by ear and dont want to cheat myself out of learning all the notes and proper scales to practice. You tell me.

I will check those links, thanks for the info.

If you can play melody by ear - as long as you are doing that in the right key keep doing what you do. But, as 80 to 90% of what we do is accompaniment, not lead solo, so chord tones and the major scale box pattern are helpful for me.

In other words, see a Cmaj7 chord and know what bass line will work under that chord rules my playing. If that is what you want do a search of my posts, I've listed it so many times the patterns will not be hard to find. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f22/where-start-again-826765/ Then post # 9 on http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f22/how-do-i-practie-827704/

Google Scott Devine video. His videos may have what you want.

Good luck.

Thank you for the info, I will check it out. Yeah Im a good guitar player, very natural, but I wanted to approach the bass a bit different this time and force myself to learn the names of what Im actually playing, dont ask why I want this torture lol. If I just stuck with Moterhead stuff and such on bass I would be fine, good at that, Megadeth and can fake some funk stuff real good, otherwise I think you guys are leading me the right way, thanks.
