Please forgive me if this is the wrong forum to post this but does anyone have any recommendations for a chair or stool to practice / perform on?

I have a lower back injury that makes playing in thumb position difficult unless I am sitting.

I was thinking about giving this one a try but I am not sure if I need to spend this much money https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003ERX2UQ/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_10?smid=A3VJEVLAWT2I1E&psc=1

Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have this stool and like it very much. I use it without the footrest but with a yoga block for my left foot. I tried a yoga block for the right foot but it gets in the way of my foot pedal page turner and doesn’t balance me all that much better. I also tip the nose slightly forward so I am 70% sitting, 30% standing, which helps both my reach and to relax my back.

By the way if you live in the US, it’s still cheapest to buy this from Thomann in Germany; even with $50 shipping, Thomann’s price is the best.

I haven’t seen the one in the picture but generally K&M stuff is well engineered, high quality and worth the $$$.

K&M gets my vote too. I have the optional backrest as well. Left foot on the peg, right foot on the ground gets me in a comfortable position with support for the bass too. The only negative - I bought the more expensive model with pneumatic mechanism. But all it really did was add weight, so I removed it!

I also have this model and use it in exactly the same way (except for the yoga block:D). I can highly recommend this chair:thumbsup:.

While that stool looks amazing, it makes sense to start with this:
International Concepts Wood Round Top Stool - 18" Seat Height - Unfinished - Walmart.com
I've used this exact one for many years, if you need something more then get the K&M, but you may find that once your back is better you are back to standing (and not into carrying yet another piece of bulky gear to every gig!).

I play sitting 100%. I purchased this stool from Sweetwater for ~$300 with footrest, without backrest, and I could not be happier.

Let me count the ways:
1) sturdy and well-made; looks like it will last
2) lighter than my old wooden bar stool, and more compact when folded up
3) seat height, seat angle and footrest completely adjustable; can use for both bass and cello
4) secure on all surfaces; won't sink into dirt when playing outside
5) front support aligned with seat so that does not interfere with endpin
6) very professional looking; matches stands and other gear
7) seat very comfortable; my old stool used to cut off the circulation in my left leg after about 30 min which required me to take special care not to topple
8) adjustments easy and secure

I had a total hip replacement surgery 8 weeks ago, and a 3-hour gig last weekend. I was not sure how it would go, but I was totally comfortable. Never a twinge.

I absolutely love it. Well worth the extra money. I might spring for the backrest later, but for now, this is brilliant.

I actually bought one of these...

https://www.amazon.com/Fender-Stand-Combo-Bundle-FCT-2/dp/B09T319G3Y/ref=sr_1_2?crid=2BSG7M19JFHE0&keywords=fender+stool+for+playing+guitar&qid=1669399140&sprefix=fender+stool,aps,135&sr=8-2

Once I took off the backrest and guitar holder thingy, I found it to be an excellent stool for gigs. It the right height for me to have both feet comfortably on the ground, the seat is firm and well padded, as well as being fabric instead of vinyl, which makes it way more pleasant in hot environments. Very sturdy while still being light. Nearly flat when folded, which is important for me. My only complaint is that the feet have worn through after a few months...

I bought this over the summer to have something portable for both the slab and the upright. I play the upright sitting at home and have a chair but it's not portable. I played a few jams with the slab and this chair and was very happy. I sat higher than a normal chair and that was a huge improvement in comfort. It will work just as well for the upright when I play it away from home. It's fully adjustable and well built. Much more solid than I expected. Has a place for your feet too And it breaks down nicely too. You will need a car to transport, it's not heavy but it's not light either because it is sturdy.

Revisiting a recent older thread about DB chairs/stools...

I bought a four of these for jamming, two for at home and two for keeping with the RV...

They're actually pretty nice for jamming with smaller instruments, but for me they're way too short (17 3/4" max) for sitting while playing a double bass. And, the sitting area is pretty uncomfortable; there are models of these stools that come with cushions, or 3rd party cushions can be purchased...

As it turned out, my wife has chairs she prefers, so with the abundance of these chairs "sitting around" I did some simple experimenting... Other than the chairs, the only other thing required is this:

(Worth noting, this is extremely aggressive Velcro, I have to really work to get attached surfaces apart and the adhesive backing is nearly permanent on many surfaces.)

And if desired, this:

And then some simple assembly and adjustment:

So now the seat is fully adjustable from around 6" to around 36 inches.

Now, yes, these are small single-footed stools and you do have to be careful not to upset the balance especially at the taller heights. But, with a little care it works very nicely, it is plenty tall and compact, and it weighs under 6 pounds.

There are 24" models of these chairs, and there are adjustable 25"-33" models of these chairs.
There are two ranges of adjustable stools by that company. I bought the shorter one, as well as a 24" non-adjustable one. I took the adjustable one, set front legs at 23 and back legs at 24, put a Purple cushion on top. Near perfect for me.
