Double Bass Chair/stool for practice & performence?

I bought that stool years ago... I personally would advise getting it. I have a herniated L4-L5 AND Sciatica. I had 3 or 4 other stools around the house. I recently moved and either gave away or threw away the other chairs...
The darn thing is STURDY...

Buy it ONCE and be done with it...

But that's my advice...

Good Luck.

To heck with anything being reasonably priced or cheap... If you pay peanuts you get the same results. Wait... Save up for it... Get quality. Darn... You play an expensive instrument to maintain, would you skimp on repairs?

Don't play upright if you aren't ready to see your wallet on life support... ;)

I have 2 K and M stools with no issues.
However, I think the price of the OP's stool is a bit much.
You should google Thomann's site, there are cheaper K and M stools, maybe a slightly different design, but well built, adjustable and comfortable. A back rest comes with these stools and a footrest is only a few dollars more.

Also, does this look familiar?

The Vestil worker seats as mentioned above have a great advantage of being easily adjustable for height on the fly and they're very sturdy. I've bought 4 of them, two for friends and I currently have two.

To me, these two Vestal seat models' disadvantages are that they don't pack up small, they're awkward to carry, they are heavy, they are not very comfortable to sit on and they have very small stance so they can upset easily, especially on soft ground.

I rarely use my two Vestal seats anymore, especially since putting together my dual telescopic chair system (mentioned in post #17 of this thread).

I have that exact K&M stool and it's one of the best gear purchases I've ever made. "Buy once, cry once," as it's expensive but you'll never regret buying it once you try it.

As mjt0229 said, Thomann has, by far, the best price you'll find.

I also have the same and it is really excellent. After some time I added to it the optional back rest, which I strongly recommend too, especially if you back pain issues.

I just go one of these:
Musical Instrument Accessories
After 25 years of leaving my bass on its side with the endpin & scroll sticking out begging to get kicked, I am SO ready for a good usable stand. My recent conversion to stool playing made this clever dual solution suddenly quite viable.
I haven't used it on a gig yet. Maybe not the lightest, most compact choice for that. (But I'm used to lugging amps.)
Regardless of how that pans out, I'm already glad I got it for my practice space.
I just wish I'd ordered the "concert black" finish. (Also a range of heights available from the linked dealer.)

Looks like a great product!
I'm not sure it would work for me as I keep the bass more upright and angled with the end-pin closer.
Pity they didn't show a picture of someone using the smaller stool.
Thanks for sharing!

I've used this one for 10 years. It's still comfortable. It's not terribly portable as it's heavy and somewhat unwieldy so it stays in one location. I had to remount the seat as the screws stripped out
of the particle board but it's been solid for many years now. I was kind of surprised to see the price has almost
doubled from when I bought it...

I've been using this one for a long time as a portable alternative. It works fine but could use more seat padding for long sessions. I sometimes add a cushion. It's also pricier than when I bought it by 50%

I've seen the String Emporium stool in the UW orchestra. Thanks to that looped back, the bassist who uses it can just hook it over her shoulder, with her bass on a wheel, which makes it all nice and portable. Those music students are busy, and they have to be everywhere at once.

I joined the stool camp. My plantar fasciitis just won't go away, and I think playing aggravates it, upright or slab. A long time ago I was in a rehearsal band, and there was an extra drum throne in the BL's basement that I sat on. One day he said that he was moving to a new house and asked me if I wanted the stool, because he wasn't going to move it. So I took it home. It's a nice padded Gibraltar drum throne. It's not really tall enough, but I ordered a piece of 7/8 inch aluminum rod from McMaster-Carr to extend its height.

For now my sitting position is with my butt on the seat and my feet on the floor. It takes most of the weight off my feet, which is what I need. Of course I'd rather not haul it around, but I'd also like to survive playing.
