Okay, peeps, I'm closing this 'un down, as it doesn't seem to me to be going anywhere.
Vail - First, it's good to see professional bassists with your experience coming to this board, and I hope this doesn't put you off. Your original post does raise some interesting points, but the crux of some people's arguments is true - unfortunately, I'd say about 95% of the people on this board are nowhere near your level in terms of the gigs and places you play, and it would be impractical for them to follow your advice.
Of course, it does come down to personal preference, and for the record I also prefer the defintion of 10s, but having said that I lack the experience of this thread's main contributors. I know of a few bassists who do use PA speakers, though - John Turner, for one.
If you're unhappy with the reception you've got here, then don't take it to heart - every now and then, some "expert" comes along and gives us the dubious benefit of his or her knowledge. Over time, certain posters have developed ways of dealing with this, and will inform you in no uncertain terms if they disagree with you. As Gabu's post shows, most of us are gracious and open-minded enough to accept it when we're wrong.
