I'm in a chamber group at my school; one of our requirements is to play three pieces throughout the marking period to the entire collection of chamber groups.
The provided music is classical music--which I have no problem with playing.
However, one of the other requirements of the course itself is to stand out and find styles of music that we thoroughly enjoy playing.
Now, our group consists entirely of guys. The majority of us subsisted on Mario and Donkey Kong growing up, so theme songs are something that is engrained in our memory.
We all happen to be Zeppelin fans, as well as fans of classic rock and the like.
And we all, of course, have a love for the true classics.
We've produced a list of different pieces we believe would fit the criteria for the upcoming performance, which include:
"Money" by Pink Floyd.
"Moonlight Sonata" by Beethoven.
"Kashmir" by Led Zeppelin.
"The Fresh Prince" by Quincy Jones (the instrumental version).
Now, we're required to have at least three pieces ready, and as I've been playing in this orchestra for two years now, I know how it goes--the director will most likely ask us to play another piece the next time our collective groups meet, even though she didn't tell us we needed two ready and will say "You should have been ready".
So, which two pieces do you think would go translate to the bass the smoothest? Which ones do my fellow double-bassists prefer and think the audience would recognize and enjoy the most?
Keep in mind, the rest of the quintet will need to have parts for this. The violinists and cellists as well, but this is more so about the music itself rather than the bass.
