Double Bass Change bridge to change sound?

OK Don, here you go. From the Double Bassist No. 3, Spring/Summer 1997, page 32. The bridge picture was in the lower right hand corner of the page so I scanned and cropped, thus the resolution isn't the best.
And just for clarification you can refer to me as a librarian. Hoarding is not my thing.

Finally tried this on my Giuseppe Pellacani. A local luthier put a new fingerboard and bridge on it and and since I am having that bridge replaced I took the wings off while putting a heavier tailpiece on at the same time - Wow!
I absolutely love it.
The old bridge was both too heavy/thick and too wide and the bass is quite dark.
I was going to sell this bass, but now I don’t know if I should.
Now I need to try this on my Hill.

For those of us interested in going for a darker rather than a brighter sound, rather than removing wings how about adding them?
I wonder if I could get my newish Shen to sound like an old German bass if I borrowed an idea from the famous luthier Baron von Richthofen?
