Changed my Am P Bass Deluxe to Passive

I never liked the sound of my 2008 Am P Bass Deluxe. It was too clinical sounding compared to my passive P basses. I removed the electronics and set it up like a passive jazz. One volume pot for the neck and one for the bridge pickups and one pot for tone. It is much better in my opinion. I guess this is why the 2010 model has a passive/active switch. It an easy and cheap (parts cost $18.99) mod. I do wonder if changing the neck pickups to either a 62 origional or to the current Am std passive ones with even give me more of the classic p bass sound.

Is it possible to change active pickups to be passive? How difficult is that to do? I have a "Cowpoke" that has active pj pu's, but I would l be interested in making them passive. I assumed I would have to buy new passive pickups? The active output is very strong and bright, which I don't need and like the thumpier passive tone better. I usually run it through a VT Bass pedal anyway so I don't need that pre-amp boost. What were the parts that cost $18.99 to mod?

Most active basses, are using passive pups to begin with....so just bypass the preamp.

EMG, and very few others, are the only ones that make 'active only' pups.

EMG HZ and EMG Select are the only only EMGs that are passive. Most all other brands are passive.
