changing a 35" scale 5 string neck to a 34" scale?

For instance the distance from the nut to the fourth fret on a 34" is 7.014", the distance from the nut to the fourth fret on a 35" is 7.220", that's less than a 1/4" difference

If you're already close to maximum stretch, 1/4" is a lot.

Yes, this explains what I meant by distance from the bridge as opposed to the pickups location along the length of the entire string.
Really, the only thing you would be changing by changing the neck from a 35 to a 34 is the tension on the string when tuned to pitch.

That's why I said I'd understand if the conversion would be to 32" scale or even 30", because in my eyes if you're having trouble at 35" then it stands to reason you're still going to have trouble at 34", or at least not very much relief at 34". Nothing wrong with playing medium and short scale, I have a 34" and a 30" myself, I end up playing the 30" more often because it's sooo easy, it plays itself.
