Can anyone suggest a favorite (and preferably free) .wma - to - mp3 software? I am starting to get into technology and currently have Cakewalk 4 Pro on my PC, but mp3 seems to be the standard for posting clips. Thanks a bunch.

but itunes doesn't support .wma.
I downloaded a program called "Audio Conversion Wizard" that covered most common formats except the Apple/itunes .m4a
and it allows you to convert multiple files at once which is quiten ice.
It was only trial software, but you could use it as much as you wanted for 14 days, before you had to either register it(for a price) or simply uninstall it.

I just want to comment that, while the mp3 format is in fact the standard, it isn't the best. Ogg Vorbis (.ogg) is a format that allows much heavier compression without noticeable quality loss. That's what I use when I need to send audio clips through e-mail.
unfortunately .ogg supports isn't always present... were most all audio / media application natively support MP3. I get great results in terms of quality vs size with 320bit Max VBR MP3s in EAC/LAME.

I'd avoid converting from wma to mp3 if I were you. It's like photocopying a photocopy. Each time you do it the quality gets worse. If you just want to post a clip, post it as is even if it's a wma. I think most people would rather hear it with the best quality we can than at a lower quality as a result of conversion "just because." If you're encoding from a high-quality source (like a wav or CD), then mp3 is a better bet. Only transcode from one lossy codec to another if it's unaviodable (like if the site you want to post to only accepts mp3s).

Without some sort of standardization 1/2 the folks you want to hear your tunes won't be able to listen because they don't have the proper software or know how to do conversions for themselves.
Besides, the clips we post aren't usually the final product to be preserved for the ages.

Thanks all! Embarrassingly, my mp3 needs don't really extend beyond myspace, but thanks for the info on .ogg.
