Changing stage name; Y/N?

You/she has a following under that name. I can't see anything coming from it other than loss of recognition. If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.

FWIW, the name she selected doesn't seem to fit anything.

FWIW, for about 5 years I played with a band, called Blue Collar Project. There was another band in same same geographic area. Not a problem, since we were playing different music.
''Uh, sure, we're the Good'ol'boys' Brothers Band''.

only guessing and IMHO only and not know the original name but Badfish Ruca sounds unattractive to me ..... corporate gigs and Mayor's Ball are not likely to be as interested in a band that sounds bad...1st impressions on promo material etc etc...sounds like a bad metal or punk bank with attitude(which is all fine in itself for bar gigs)...again IMHO....plus why mess with established reputation

I looked up the term "badfish" in several urban dictionaries. The consensus seems to be that it means someone who does way too much herion (not that there's an acceptable amount), or drinks way too much, and tries to get others to do herion or drink too much too.

Why in the world would she want to associate with that term?

The main singer-songwriter I play with is named Matt Jones. About 11-12 years ago when he was first getting his music on iTunes and MySpace, there was another "Matt Jones" in another region of the country. They kept each getting booking inquiries from the *other* region, at which point my friend Matt pulled his whole catalog offline and rebranded himself as "The Real Matt Jones". That name has stuck all these years and even though Matt is no longer touring the country, he's known locally and even nationally to some extent as The Real Matt Jones. The other guy fell off into oblivion years ago.

Anyway, I'm not sure how that helps, other than to say if a name change is a must, then do it in a way that people know who you are when they see the name. As with any product, first to market has a humongous advantage, so if your singer is already out there and known by her name and the other is something of a new-comer, then she really shouldn't be the one changing things up. Obviously, being first to market isn't as good as far and wide distribution, but that's another topic.

Badfish Ruca is a bad name. If she can come up with a good name, I'd reluctantly say, "OK." But her coming up with a bad name that is bad on numerous levels points up that she's not very good at this "name thing." If she doesn't want to use her real name, come up with a professional name, a stage name, and use that. But not Rottencarp Puka.
