Changing the 4x10 with something powerful and smaller

Hi, i'm the happy owner of a Peavey Tour 700 + Peavey TVX 410, from the beginning i tought to buy the tvx 410 + an 1x15 to use the full power and have a nice bottom end but there was a problem:

the tvx is very heavy and big, and the bottom end is enough and i like it this way.
So, i'm searching for 2 2x10 8 ohm around 4-500W that will sound similar to my peavey, is there something like this? With a setup like this i can choose to use only 1 cabinet with my head providing 500w @ 8 ohm, and full power with both the cabinets.

I play rock and metal and for now i've only passive basses, i also use a Sansamp PSA 1.1 for the pre section if this can be useful.

Edit: If you think there's another interesting solution that's perfect! IDK, something like 2x12 instead 2x10 or something else!

Well, it won't be lighter but since you like the sound of the tvx, maybe just get the older 4 ohm model. Or swap out the speakers, but that isn't real cost effective. Sorry, Don't know much about 2 10 cabs. Good luck!

Well you can get the plans and Build them yourself....for probably around the same price as it would take to by a bunch of new cabs. if i am not mistaken there is even some one in Italy that has or i building one right now! If you do have questions i would suggest signing up at the fEARful Forum [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] have everything you need to know about building one!!

I will Put it this way....My fEARul 15/6/1 gets Louder and Lower then any 410 cab out there and does not over drive even with a drop tuned #F and i am feeding it 700 watts and she dont even burp!! and for my Big 1515/66/1......not an 810 out there that can touch it....and i should know i have owned and played through a few!! They are designed to have a flat Response similar to a Studio monitor due to the fact that each speaker is crossed over at the Optimal Frequencies to give a true Full Range pretty flat sound with out coloring it. Pretty Much what ever sound you put in to it is the same sound that comes out of it!!!! Best of luck!! Cheers Mate!!~Elliot

Going smaller from a 4x10 will net you a volume loss. Unless you go with one of these powerful wonder-cabs, like a fEARful, or similar. I'd suggest a good 2x12 if you want a ready made cab, but again, it most likely will not be as loud as a 4x10. Something to consider.

...Well dont get me wrong it will work fine you will just have to watch that you dont push too hard. i have ran 2 210 before and they work fine....just for me I Like a very Strong Solid bottom end and for what i do the 210s just did not cut it!! Now i know there are some super 210s out there that can take alot and do a lot but they cost alot too.... Like i said i am only telling you what has worked or not worked for me each person is different....For Me thats why i went with the fEARful cause they can take everything i through at them and get lower the most 18 sub out there but are still clean clear and Punchy!!...... In the end there is a lot of great stuff out there you just realy have to find what works good for you and does what you want it to!! 2 210's maybe just the thing for you...if you do go that way i would suggest stacking them vertically that way you have a speaker closer to ear level you can here better and and it seams to get a better bottom end that why when they are aligned in a vertical stack!!....and to add what RNV said Bareface Makes some killers cabs as well that are right up there with the fEARful cabs in the realm of Super cabs!!

Well, you like DIY, but you want a pair of small cabs. I think a fEARful 12/6 (with the Eighteensound mid driver and LPad switch) and 12sub will be a perfect match! Small, very light, can handle the power from your amp no problem and will go LOUD. They sound great, too.

Use the 12/6 when you only want one cab with, use both when you want more. You'll get a lot more SPL (sound pressure level, volume) with the pair of those than any pair of 210s or a 410.

I predict that if you get those, you'll never need another cab :D

I have never been happier than with my fEARful. I sold my trusty SWR Goliath Jr III on the spot. I actually don't even think I plugged it back up after I finished building my fEARful. :)
