I visited a one room music store this morning that had a plethora of 'Going out of business!' posters plastered all over it. I'd never even heard of the place until my mother in law espied it yesterday and phoned me. Anyway, it is (was) owned by a Korean lady who imported various guitars, basses, and violins, all MIK. The place was in total disarray, but I meandered through the mess. Eventually, I began noodling on a 6 string 'BlueRock' bass and it played pretty well, considering the poor strings and lack of setup. I had no intention of buying an instrument, but she made me an offer that was too attractive to pass up. I brought the bass home and gave it a rudimentary setup and it seems just fine. 24 frets, rosewood board, 5 piece maple/walnut neck-through with mahogany wings. The bass came with straplocks but they aren't particularly useful: they lock far too close to the body, such that I can't make any of my thick straps work. Bridge is a massive contraption that allows through body stringing (currently set up this way). Pickups are jazz style, 9volt actives. Dual truss rods, and the cavity is copper shielded, no less. Oddly enough, this bass has Grover tuners. I figure I'll put a set of decent strings on it and replace the crumbling plastic nut over Christmas. The electronics are fine for now, though they do hum considerably when playing either just the neck or bridge pickup. All in all, a very nice find for rather inconsiderable money. Oh yes, and it is heavy; I'd guess around 10 pounds.
