Cheap hollow body bass

So I'm interested in getting a hollow/ semi hollow/ chambered bass to help achieve the warm tone I've been looking for. I will be playing some metal with this, so something that could preferably take distortion well. Although I play modern stuff, I often use some vintage sounds in the mix. I want the cheapest bass possible while having most or all my needs, and still having a decent bass that won't explode on me. I really want a warm, big, and dark tone with lots of bass, boom, and punch.

You may not even need a hollowbody to achieve the sound you are looking for
a good P bass gives some deep and warm lows
a mudbucker equipped Epiphone EB-O or EB-3 may be your ticket as well
or simply changing your string to flats

Right now I only have an SX p/j fretless equipped with D'addario Halfrounds if that helps with how to improve my tone.
