cheap versions of elixirs

I've tried a variety of strings and have come to love the most expensive ones the best. elixir coated .. I'll replace them once every 4 - 6 months, they last a long time.

anybody find something similar for a lesser price?

4-6 months is not really a long time for bass strings - I go once a year, usually. And there is no substitution for the Gore-tex coating on Elixir's strings - this is why they cost a lot of money (and don't feel good to me). But, maybe some other coated string - DR (I'm a DR man), Ernie Ball has one now (I think), and that may be it - would do. They are far cheaper than Elixirs, and aren't coated with the same stuff that my winter cycling gloves are made out of.

Personally I use Roto sounds on both axes BS66 and SH77

they have great sustain, great punch and very nice harmonics. granted the SH77 are about 50.0 a pack the BS66 can be had for around 20-24 . Both seem to last 9 months to a year and there non coated

4-6 months is not really a long time for bass strings

Depends on who's playing the bass. Non Elixers last me about a month if I'm lucky, whereas Elixers last a good 3-4 months.

D'Addario EXP's are good coated bass strings that cost around 20% less than Elixir strings if you get them off ebay.

to me, 4-6 months is a very long time. I play about an half hour-hour a day, and i change my strings about every 2 months....DRs for me btw.

I also use Elexir strings , they are great. They last one year before I have to change them ( the couating become grey and start to become hairy ) and I play one to two hours a day and when I jam it is almost 5 hours.

i love elixirs

to me it isn't about how long they last... it is about how CONSISTENTLY good they sound throughout their entire life.

Every time I throw some D'addarios on, i get disgusted with how dead they sound in 2 weeks...
