Been looking for a 5 string PJ here recently and the P6 was one that landed on the list. After watching a few videos and weighing the options I decided to grab one of the discounted Butterscotch colored ones from Sweetwater. I was on the second wave of orders for the original V7 some 11 years ago and had a V5 when they came out. That said, I've been impressed with every one I've had and as time goes on it seems Sire keeps refining the brand and keeping their prices very competitive.
Mine delivered today and I took it for a quick spin through my Genzler rig....everything looked and sounded good. I then grabbed my string of choice and went to work. Put on the new strings and lowered the action down a little. Had to do some minimal adjustment at the bridge for intonation and left the neck relief alone. After doing the setup I was very impressed with the playability, overall tone of the bass and feel of the neck. The one I got weighs in at 8lbs 7oz so it feels great strapped on.
I had a rehearsal tonight so I took it and played through my old Fender Rumble 100 combo. That amp is pretty underwhelming but the Sire sounded pretty good through it. I really enjoyed being able to roll up to that P pickup, roll back the tone and get that thumpy P bass sound. The bass also sounded great with both pickups on and I used the tone knob to taste depending on the song. Overall not a bad package for $600 bucks. I think I'll take it out on both my Friday and Saturday gigs this weekend and see how it does.
